For 2007 ROCKLINE is having it's finest year with the most live, all-new shows in our storied twenty-six year history. But everybody deserves a break now and then, so we are pleased to announce that for this year's Independence Week we are offering Special Encore Broadcasts featuring two of our best shows from this year. On Monday July 2nd we will feature Stone Sour and on Wednesday July 4th it's John Mellencamp! Nothing is more American than these two artists hailing from Iowa and Indiana respectively. The following are the pieces we posted when these shows originally aired.

Stone Sour

Stone Sour has morphed from a second band, a side project for Slipknotters Corey Taylor and Jim Root, to a full fledged headliner. The band is carrying the flag for the newly minted Jagermeister Music Tour, just getting underway, and is taking Italy’s Lacuna Coil and upcoming ROCKLINE guests Shadows Fall with them. The Iowa based rockers are into their third single from their second album “Come What(Ever) May” and while it may well be a Sillyworld it’s a Stone Sour spring. The band recently won legions of new fans in support of Evanescence and reconfirmed their reign with European audiences, but the time is now to step up as the headliners they were meant to be. Full dates are at Stone Sour and MySpace.

Expected to join us to take your calls and discuss their music are Jim, Shawn Economaki, Josh Rand and Roy Mayorga. We’re giving Corey the night off to reconnect with his loved ones as the remainder of the band will be spending their off night in Chicago to hook up with you. Some “off night”, huh? Corey joined us the last time the band was on and gave us a great explanation of the lyrical content contained in the album, so this will allow us to focus on other aspects of one of the best rock albums in many years. To our ears, there are many more singles on Come What(Ever) May”, the next will be “Made of Scars”, so the possibility of even more tour support remains high. Our advice is to catch this current tour though, the venues are the right size and the accompanying bands are A+.

Join us as the show belongs to Stone Sour and you, only on the next ROCKLINE!

John Mellencamp

It has been four years since John Mellencamp released a studio album of all new songs. That album, “Trouble No More”, was issued in June of 2003. But the wait for the new CD “Freedom’s Road” is over as the album is now available in stores and on the Internet. A life long resident of the heartland in Indiana, John has created music based on American themes and mores throughout his career. But there’s always more to his songs than what appears on the surface. Dig a little deeper into some of his classics like “Pink Houses” and “Country Gentleman” and there is an underlying acerbic wit and critical observation present in most of his work. More information regarding the new album “Freedom’s Road” is available at Mellencamp.com.

The ubiquitous first single, “Our Country” is a song Mellencamp has been performing live for several years, very often serving as the opening song. The tune began appearing on ads for Chevy Silverado trucks and it is virtually impossible to watch television, especially football games, without hearing the Woody Guthrie style anthem. But once again, dig a bit deeper and not everything is as rosy in our country as it might seem upon first listen. Mellencamp, long a supporter of the “little guy” whether it is the independent farmer or small business owner, is a master of double entendre and is deft at composing lyrics that make one question exactly what his observation and viewpoint might be. Then there are songs such as the new hidden track on “Freedom’s Road” titled “Rodeo Clown”. That song is about our current president and is about as straightforward as it gets while still remaining in the patented Mellencamp style.

Join us for the always opinionated, always engaging John Mellencamp on the next ROCKLINE!
